Red Cedar Coffee Table

The man we purchased our home from was a retired builder. And he literally saved anything that might have a use somewhere in the future. He left a tremendous amount of wood in all forms, beams, structural pieces, 2x4's, fence posts, columns, scraps, it was over whelming for him to think about cleaning it up, and for me to actually do it. We saved everything worth anything to us, and hauled the rest away. Then we started. One of the first pieces we made was from some Western Red Cedar that looked as though it had been used in a play, in that it had some very colorful signs painted on several pieces. This is what I came up with. The legs were old fence posts, and I left some of the old paint. It came out with as much character as you could ever hope for. It was finished with a hand rubbed oil finish. I only showed this piece to one lady, and she loaded it into her car that day!
